Hong Kong, like every country of the world have been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. This artwork is a memorial to all those who passed away during this terrible time. The city and the public are part of the experience. From the distance, we see the foliage of a tree emerging from the basement. When we get closer, a site appears like an archeological dig. A few rusty metal arches protrude from the excavated area. Approaching the stairs, one can discover a skeletal remains: DIVOK, the metaphorical COVID19 creature that devastated part of Hong Kong. Its name comes from the 2019 pandemic read backwards as when looking to the past. DIVOK also refers to the Hebrew devil and means "the possession of a demon". Many Hong Kong citizens were eaten by the beast. As you walk over the remains of his spine, you can see their name etched into the ribs. The water flowed over the sediments to purify the site and welcome the lucky fish. It brings life and growth to Hong Kong's national tree: the bauhnian. A symbol for a new beginning, a new hope for Hong Kong and its people.
